Cream butter and sugar - Add eggs 1 at a time and beat well. Add soda to buttermilk and vanilla. Add alternately with flour to creamed mixture.

Bake in 350 degree oven in an iron skilet if possible. Bake for about 45 minutes or until done in the middle.
